SPORT

BTEC

Is it for me?

Are you interested in sport? Are you considering a career in sport? Fancy learning more about fitness, sports leadership and the body in sport? Then this course is for you.

What will I be doing?

As part of the BTEC National in Sport you complete 6 units. These include units on ‘Sports Psychology’, ‘Anatomy and Physiology’, ‘Health and Safety in Sport’, ‘Technical and Tactical aspects of Sport’, ‘Fitness Instruction’ and ‘Sports Leadership’.

All of these units are completed during the 2 year course. You will be completing both theory lessons and practical lessons though it is important to note that we spend more time studying the sports theory than playing sport.

How do I pass the course?

The course is 100% coursework therefore you will have various assignments to complete. You can gain 4 different grades at the end of this award which are equivalent to the following A-level grades: Pass (E at A-level), Merit (C at A-level), Distinction (A at A-level) or Distinction * (A* at A-level).

Where will it take me?

Once you have completed this course you can choose various pathways. If you wish to study at university, universities will accept this award (check with individual universities what grade you will need). We have had many students progress onto a sports science related degree at a range of universities during the last 5 years. Alternatively you can choose to work in the sports industry.

How do I get on the course?

To get onto this course you need to have shown a good track record in PE. It is also very helpful if you have studied BTEC First in sport and achieved a Merit or Distinction. If you have not studied this course before, then you will need to have achieved a minimum of 4 subjects at the equivalent of A*-C at Key Stage 4.
